The avocado is a rather unique type of fruit.
Most fruit consists primarily of carbohydrate, while avocado is high in healthy fats.
Numerous studies show that it has powerful beneficial effects on human health.

Avocado is Incredibly Nutritious

What we refer to as “avocado” is the fruit of the avocado tree, called Persea americana
This fruit is prized for its high nutrient value and is added to all sorts of dishes due to its good flavor and rich texture. It is the main ingredient in guacamole.
These days, the avocado has become an incredibly popular food among health conscious individuals. It is often referred to as a superfood… which is not surprising given its health properties
There are many kinds of avocados, and the shape (from pear-shaped to round) and color (from green to black) can vary between them. They can also weigh anywhere from 8 ounces (220 grams) to 3 pounds (1.4 kg).
The most popular type is called Hass avocado.

This is what a typical avocado looks like

It is often called “alligator pear,” which is very descriptive because it tends to be shaped like a pear and have green, bumpy skin… like an alligator.
The yellow-green flesh inside the fruit is eaten, but the skin and seed are discarded.
Avocados are very nutritious and contain a wide variety of nutrients, including 20 different vitamins and minerals.eHere are some of the most abundant nutrients, in a single 3.5 ounc (100 gram) servin:
  • Vitamin K: 26% of the RDA.
  • Folate: 20% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin C: 17% of the RDA.
  • Potassium: 14% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin B5: 14% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin B6: 13% of the RDA.
  • Vitamin E: 10% of the RDA.

Then it contains small amounts of Magnesium, Manganese, Copper, Iron, Zinc, Phosphorous, Vitamin A, B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin) and B3 (Niacin)

This is coming with 160 calories, 2 grams of protein and 15 grams of healthy fats. Although it contains 9 grams of carbs, 7 of those are fiber so there are only 2 “net” carbs, making this a low-carb friendly plant food.
Avocados do not contain any cholesterol or sodium, and are low in saturated fat. I personally don’t think that matters, but this is one of the reasons they are favored by many “old school” experts who still believe these things are inherently harmful

Apple juice helps provide a variety of nutrients in low to moderate amounts. Not only does the juice contain natural fruit, the apple derived liquid also works to properly hydrate both athletes and semi active people of all ages.

Nutritional Content

For every cup of apple juice consumed, nearly 10 different vitamins and minerals will have entered the body. This sweet drink, without any added sugar, provides a moderate amount of carbohydrates, mostly through all natural fructose and glucose; eight ounces equals about 10% of the daily required intake of carbohydrates for a 2000 calorie diet.
Apple juice contains minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, manganese and magnesium. All-natural apple juice also provides vitamins C and B6.

Nutritional Benefits

As a low glycemic carbohydrate, apples and apple juice allow the body to properly metabolize its caloric content into food energy. The natural sugars found in the beverage also provide a healthy source of energy and muscle hydration.
Natural apple juice contains a very low amount of sodium at only 10 mg per each cup. Over consuming sodium, a nutrient found in most foods, increases blood pressure which often causes heart damage.
This fruit juice variety contains no fats or unhealthy cholesterol either, both of which cause adverse health issues with prolonged consumption.
The mineral combination found in apple juice help increase metabolic function, decrease the risk of bone disease, and work to increase heart health as well. The vitamin C in the fruit juice helps regulate the bodily functions such as the conversion of food energy into fuel for the muscles.

Pineapples are one of the most popular tropical fruits in the world.
They are a good source of many nutrients, such as vitamin C, manganese, copper and folate. Pineapples are also the only source of the plant compound bromelain.
Bromelain is associated with many health benefits, such as enhanced immune function, cancer prevention, improved wound healing and better gut health.
Pineapples are delicious when consumed fresh, but they can also be enjoyed as juice, dried, canned, or as an ingredient in various recipes.
Pineapples have a rough and scaly skin, and develop from a cluster of berries that fuse together around a central, fibrous core.
The flesh of ripe pineapples ranges in color from white to yellow, has a characteristic aroma and a sweet, juicy and tangy flavor.

This is how Pineapple look like

health benefits of pineaple

Nutrition Facts

Fresh pineapples contain 50 calories per 100 grams, which amounts to only 83 calories per cup (165 grams).
They consist of water (86%) and carbs (13%), with almost no protein or fat.

Carbohydrates

The carbohydrates in pineapples are mostly simple sugars, such as sucrose, fructose and glucose. They also contain some fiber.
A cup (165 grams) of pineapples contains 21.7 grams of carbs, and 2.3 grams of fiber, so there are 19.4 grams of digestible (net) carbs in each cup.
The glycemic index value of pineapples can range from 45-66, which is in the medium range.
This means that pineapples should not have any major effects on blood sugar levels, at least not in healthy people.

Fibers

One cup of pineapples contains 2 grams of fiber, almost all of which is insoluble (99%).
These are mainly in the form of cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin.
Insoluble fibers have been linked to reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and healthy digestion.

Vitamins and Minerals

Pineapples are a great source of several vitamins and minerals.
One cup provides 132% of the recommended intake for vitamin C and 76% for manganese.
These are the most abundant vitamins and minerals in pineapples.
    1. Vitamin C: An antioxidant vitamin that is required for healthy skin and immune function.

    2. Manganese: An essential trace mineral that is usually found in high amounts in fruit, vegetables, whole grains and legumes.

    3. Copper: A trace mineral with many important functions in the body, such as being a co-factor in the making of red blood cells.
    4. Folate (B9): A member of the vitamin B family, important for tissue growth and normal cell function, and especially important for pregnant women.

    Health Benefits of Pineapples

Most of the health benefits of pineapples are attributed to their content of the plant compound bromelain.

However, it should be noted that some of the research is based on bromelain that is obtained from pineapple stems, which contain higher levels of it.
Because the stems are usually not consumed, bromelain supplements (also called “pineapple extract”) may be needed to achieve some of the health benefits.

Improved Immune Function and Reduced Inflammation

The immune system protects our bodies against diseases, fights off harmful microorganisms, and repairs damage.
Test tube studies have shown that bromelain strengthens the immune system and reduces inflammation.
Animal studies have also shown that bromelain may reduce the severity of inflammation, stimulate immune responses, and have beneficial effects in asthma and allergic airway diseases.
Human studies have shown that intake of pineapple, or a bromelain supplement, may shorten the duration of sinus infections, stimulate immune responses, prevent the formation of blood clots and reduce inflammation.

    Lowered Risk of Cancer

Cancer is characterized by an uncontrollable cell growth that may invade and destroy the surrounding tissues. It is one of the main causes of death and disability worldwide.
Diets rich in deep-yellow fruit and vegetables have been linked with reduced risk of colon cancer.
Test-tube studies have shown that bromelain may inhibit the growth of cancer cells, as well as drive them to apoptosis (cell death).

    Improved Wound Healing

Wound healing is the body’s ability to repair itself after injury, but this process may be interrupted by factors like diabetes, old age and heart disease.
Test tube studies indicate that the bromelain in pineapples may be used to enhance the healing of wounds.
Both fresh pineapple juice and bromelain have been shown to aid wound healing in animal studies, by accelerating recovery and reducing inflammation.
A bromelain-based lotion has been shown to facilitate the healing of skin burns in humans.

    Improved Gut Health

The bacteria in our body outnumber our cells 10:1, and most of them reside in the gut. Maintaining a healthy gut flora has numerous health benefits.
Pineapples are usually easily digested by the beneficial gut bacteria, and cause minimal bloating and gas.
Animal studies indicate that pineapples and bromelain may help in the treatment of digestive diseases, such as inflammatory bowel diseases, by reducing gut inflammation and preventing diarrhea.
Bromelain also helps digest proteins, so it may be useful for those who are prone to indigestion following a protein-rich meal, like steak.

      Individual Concerns and Adverse Effects

Most people tolerate pineapples well, but they may cause mouth irritation in some individuals.
Pineapples may also interfere with the function of some medications, and there are some people who are allergic to them.

    Mouth Irritation

Some people experience mouth discomfort after consuming pineapples, a harmless condition that should resolve in a couple of hours.
This is caused by bromelain, the protein-digesting enzyme found in pineapple fruit and stem.

    Pineapple Allergy and Cross-Reactivity

Pineapples may in some cases cause allergic reactions, with symptoms like itching, rashes, runny nose, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, and even severe allergic shock.
Individuals who suffer from allergies to latex, birch pollen or grass pollen, may also experience allergic reactions to pineapple, as a result of cross-reactivity.
The cross-reactivity is a result of the body mistaking the proteins found in pineapples for similar allergy-causing proteins found in pollen or latex, causing allergic reactions to the fruit.

    Medication Concerns

Individuals taking medication, such as blood thinners, should consult with their doctor before incorporating pineapples or bromelain supplements into their daily routine.
Pineapples are known to prevent accumulation of blood platelets, and may have a blood thinning effect.

Lemon juice is loaded with healthy vitamins so it is useful as both a food and as a home remedy for many disorders. What is less well known is that lemon juice also has many benefits when applied directly to the skin. What are those benefits? How to apply lemon juice for optimum results?

     Health Benefits Of Lemon Juice.

The acids in the juice may be irritating to some people so be sure to dilute lemon juice with water before applying it to your skin. Some of the benefits of lemon juice on skin include:

    1. Diminishes scars and age spots

The discoloration caused by scars, certain skin disorders and age spots can be diminished by applying lemon juice to the discolored area. It may be helpful to apply at bedtime and leave the lemon juice on the skin over night.

    2. Heals acne

Lemon juice has natural antibacterial properties that make it a good choice to help cure acne and prevent further breakouts. Using lemon juice on blackheads has been shown to reduce the frequency and severity of blackheads. If you leave lemon juice on the acne and blackheads over night, be sure to wash it off in the morning.

    3. Exfoliates

Lemon juice is a natural exfoliant since the citric acid acts as a gentle "skin peel" that removes the top layer of dead skin cells. This will result in a smooth complexion when used regularly.

    4. Other benefits

Other benefits of using lemon juice on the skin may include brightening or lightening the skin, moisturizing and toning oily skin, and fighting wrinkles.

How to Use Lemon Juice on Skin

    1. Fade age spots

Use lemon juice or diluted lemon juice directly to the age spots at bedtime. Wash it off in the morning. If you have age spots on multiple areas of your body, run a warm bath and add 1/2 cup of lemon juice. Soak in the bath for 15-20 minutes. It is not necessary to rinse after this bath unless your skin is excessively dry.

    2. Brighten the skin

If you have discolored or rough skin on your knees, elbows and heels, try using fresh lemon juice on the affected area. Leave the lemon juice on your skin over night.

    3. Remove blackheads

For removal of occasional blackheads, rub straight lemon juice on the blackheads every night until they disappear. Be sure to rinse the lemon juice off with cool water in the morning.

    4. Moisturize your skin

If you have excessively dry skin, you can use lemon juice, olive oil and honey to moisturize your skin. Mix equal amounts of the ingredients and apply to the dry areas. Leave the mixture on for 10-15 minutes then rinse with warm water.

    5. Tone oily skin

Mixing lemon juice with vodka, water and witch hazel will produce a solution that will help tone oily skin. Mix 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 1-tablespoon water, 2 tablespoons vodka and 1 teaspoon of witch hazel. Mix well and apply to the oily areas of your skin. Rinse with cool water.

    6. Exfoliate

Using a lemon cut into quarters, dip a piece of lemon into a small amount of sugar. Rub the cut lemon over your face to help remove the top layer of dead cells. You can also combine lemon juice, sugar and water into a paste and apply the paste. Rinse with cool water.

    7. Fight wrinkles

Add a few drops of lemon juice and a drop of almond oil to a teaspoon of honey and mix well. Put this mixture on your face for 15-20 minutes then rinse off with cool water. Use this over several days to remove the fine wrinkles around your eyes, but do not get the mixture in your eyes!

    8. Cure acne

Finally, use lemon juice on your skin to fight acne. As a natural antibacterial, lemon juice can fight the bacteria that cause acne. Apply full strength lemon juice directly to the acne or dilute with water if the juice stings. The antioxidant L-ascorbic acid in lemons is the active ingredient in other acne products -- at a fraction of the cost! Use about 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and apply to the acne. Leave it on your skin for about 30 minutes or overnight if you can. Be sure to wash it off with cool water.

Tips and Warnings for Using Lemon Juice on Skin

There are some tips and warnings for using lemon juice on your skin:

    1. Stinging sensation

Lemon juice may produce stinging due to the citric acid in the juice. Mix the lemon juice with some water if you cannot tolerate the burning and stinging. Start by mixing the lemon juice and water in a half and half solution and then adjust the mixture based on how your skin feels.

    2. Dry skin

Lemon juice applied to already dry skin can actually make that condition worse. If you do have dry skin, be sure to use a good moisturizer after applying lemon juice to your skin. Lemon juice and honey also make for a good antibacterial and moisturizing combination. If your skin is oily, try combining the lemon juice with some cucumber juice.

    3. Interference with topical treatments

Although lemon juice has been shown to have antibacterial properties, be sure to consult your healthcare provider if you are using any other topical skin treatments. Lemon juice may actually interfere with other medications you are using on your skin.

    4. The right frequency

Using lemon juice on your skin every day may lead to dry, broken skin that is more susceptible to infection. Until you know how the lemon juice affects your skin, use it on your skin no more than every other day. The effect you are looking for may take a little longer, but you will be less likely to suffer some of the side effects.

    5. Keeping off sun exposure

When using lemon juice on the skin, be sure to stay out of the sun and use a high SPF sunscreen when you must be outside. Lemon juice on the skin will make your skin more prone to sunburn and the resulting damage that can occur.

Lemons are among the world’s most popular citrus fruits.
They grow on lemon trees, and are a hybrid of the original citron and lime.
There are many ways to enjoy lemons, but they taste very sour and are usually not eaten as whole fruit.
Instead, they are eaten in little slices, as garnish with meals, and their juice is often used to provide a sour flavor. They are also a key ingredient in lemonade.
Lemons are a great source of vitamin C and fiber, and contain many plant compounds, minerals and essential oils. Eating lemons may help lower the risk of heart disease, cancer and kidney stones.

    Carbs

The carbohydrates in lemons are primarily composed of fibers and simple sugars such as glucose, fructose and sucrose.

    Fiber

The main fiber in lemons is pectin.
Soluble fibers like pectin can lower blood sugar levels by slowing down the digestion of sugar and starch.
Dietary fibers are an important part of a healthy diet, and linked with numerous health benefits.

    Vitamins and Minerals

Lemons contain several vitamins and minerals.
    • Vitamin C: An essential vitamin and antioxidant. It is important for immune function and skin health.
    • Potassium: A diet high in potassium can lower blood pressure levels and have positive effects on cardiovascular health.
    • Vitamin B6: A group of related vitamins that are involved in converting food into energy.

    Other Plant Compounds

Plant compounds are natural bioactive substances found in plants, some of which have powerful health benefits.
The plant compounds in lemons, and other citrus fruit, may have beneficial effects on cancer, cardiovascular disease and inflammation.
These are the main plant compounds found in lemons:
    • Citric acid: The most abundant organic acid in lemons, and may help prevent the formation of kidney stones.
    • Hesperidin: An antioxidant that may strenghten our blood vessels and prevent atherosclerosis.
    • Diosmin: An antioxidant that is used in some drugs that affect the circulatory system. It improves vascular muscle tone and reduces chronic inflammation in blood vessels.
    • Eriocitrin: An antioxidant that is found in lemon peel and juice.
    • D-Limonene: Found primarily in lemon peel. It is the main component of lemon essential oils, and responsible for the distinct smell of lemons. In isolation, it can help relieve heartburn and stomach reflux.
Many of the plant compounds in lemons are not found in high amounts in lemon juice, so it is recommended to eat the whole fruit for maximum benefit.

    Health Benefits of Lemons

Citrus fruits, including lemons, have been associated with numerous health benefits.
This is attributed to the vitamins and fiber content, as well as their powerful plant compounds.

    Prevention of Kidney Stones

The citric acid in lemons can increase urine volume, which may help prevent the formation of kidney stones.
Some studies have shown that lemon juice and lemonade can be effective at preventing kidney stones, but other studies have found no effect.

    Prevention of Anemia

Anemia is often caused by iron deficiency, and is most common in pre-menopausal women.
Lemons contain small amounts of iron, but they are a great source of vitamin C and citric acid, which can increase the absorption of iron from other foods.
Because lemons can enhance the absorption of iron from foods, they may help prevent anemia.

    Cancer

Lemons may help reduce the risk of many types of cancers, including breast cancer. This is mainly due to plant compounds like hesperidin and d-limonene.

in vitamin C is linked to reduced cardiovascular disease.
Low levels of vitamin C in the blood are also linked to increased risk of stroke, especially among those who are overweight or have high blood pressure.
Intake of isolated fibers from citrus fruits has been shown to decrease blood cholesterol levels, and the essential oils in lemons can protect LDL cholesterol particles from becoming oxidized.
Recent studies on rats show that the plant compounds hesperidin and diosmin may have beneficial effects on some key risk factors for heart diseases.

The papaya is an incredibly healthy tropical fruit.
Papaya is rich in valuable nutrients and has a delicious taste.
Its strong antioxidant properties may help reduce your risk of many diseases, especially the ones that tend to come with age, such as heart disease and cancer including reduce inflammation,.
It may also defend against aging, helping your skin remain smooth and youthful.
To experience the many benefits of papaya, consider adding this healthy and delicious fruit to your diet.

    health benefits of papaya

    1. Papaya is Delicious and Loaded With Nutrients

Papaya is the fruit of the Carica papaya plant.
Christopher Columbus reportedly called it “fruit of the angels” because it tasted so good.
The papaya originated in Central America and Southern Mexico, but is now grown in many other parts of the world including Australia.
Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which can break down the tough protein chains found in muscle meat. Because of this, people have used papaya to tenderize meat for thousands of years.
If the papaya is ripe, it can be eaten raw. However, unripe papaya should always be cooked before eating, especially during pregnancy. That’s because the unripe fruit has a high latex content, which can stimulate contractions.
Papayas are shaped similar to a pear, and can be up to 20 inches long. The skin is green when unripe, and orange when ripe. The flesh inside is yellow, orange or red.
The fruit also has many black seeds seeds inside the center. These are edible, but do have a bitter flavor.
This is what papayas look like:
One small papaya (152 grams) contains:
    • Calories: 59.
    • Carbohydrates: 15 grams.
    • Fiber: 3 grams.
    • Protein: 1 gram.
    • Vitamin C: 157% of the RDI.
    • Vitamin A: 33% of the RDI.
    • Folate (Vitamin B9): 14% of the RDI.
    • Potassium: 11% of the RDI.
    • Trace amounts of calcium, magnesium and vitamins B1, B3, B5, E and K.
Papayas also contain healthy antioxidants called carotenoids. They are especially high in a type of carotenoid called lycopene.
What’s more, these beneficial antioxidants are better absorbed from papayas than from other fruits and vegetables.

    2. Papaya May Improve Digestion

The papain enzyme in the fruit can make protein easier to digest.
People in the tropics consider papaya a remedy for constipation and other symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
In one study, people who took a papaya-based formula for 40 days had significant improvement in constipation and bloating.
The seeds, leaves and roots have also been shown to be effective for treating ulcers in animal and human studies.

    3. The Fruit is Delicious and Versatile

Papaya has a unique taste that many people love. However, ripeness is key.
An unripe or overly ripe papaya can taste very different from one at its peak of ripeness.
When optimally ripe, papaya should be yellow to orange-red in color, although a few green spots are fine. It should yield to gentle pressure, similar to an avocado.
Like the mango, its flavor is best when cold, so it’s a good idea to keep it refrigerated whenever possible.
It’s also an incredibly versatile fruit.
You can wash it well, cut it in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and eat it out of the rind with a spoon, like cantaloupe or melon.
It can also be combined with other foods that complement its flavor.
Here are a few easy recipe ideas using 1 small papaya:
    • Breakfast: Cut it in half and fill each half with Greek yogurt, then top with a few blueberries and chopped nuts.
    • Appetizer: Cut it into strips and wrap a slice of ham or prosciutto around each strip.
    • Salsa: Chop papaya, tomatoes, onions and cilantro, then add lime juice and mix well.
    • Smoothie: Combine the diced fruit with coconut milk and ice in a blender, then blend until smooth.
    • Salad: Chop papaya and avocado into cubes, add diced cooked chicken and dress with olive oil and vinegar.
    • Dessert: Combine the chopped fruit with 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, 1 cup almond milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix well and refrigerate before eating.

    4. It Protects Against Skin Damage

In addition to keeping your body healthy, papaya can also help your skin look more toned and youthful.
Excessive free radical activity is believed to be responsible for much of the wrinkling, sagging and other skin damage that occurs with age.
The vitamin C and lycopene in papaya protect your skin and may help reduce these signs of aging.
In one study, lycopene supplementation for 10–12 weeks decreased skin redness after sun exposure, which is a sign of skin injury.
In another, older women who consumed a mixture of lycopene, vitamin C and other antioxidants for 14 weeks had a visible and measurable reduction in depth of facial wrinkles.

    5. Papaya Fights Inflammation

Chronic inflammation is at the root of many diseases, and unhealthy foods and lifestyle choices can drive the inflammatory process.
Inflammation can be measured by testing several blood markers, including C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-6 (IL-6).
Studies have shown that antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables like papaya help to reduce these inflammatory markers.
For example, one study showed that men who increased their intake of fruits and vegetables high in carotenoids had a significant decrease in CRP.

    6. Papaya Has Anti-Cancer Properties

Research suggests that the lycopene in papaya can reduce cancer risk.
It may also be beneficial for people who are being treated for cancer.
Papaya’s cancer-fighting ability appears to be due to its reduction in free radicals that contribute to cancer development and progression.
Additionally, papaya may have some unique effects that aren’t found in other fruits.
Among 14 fruits and vegetables with known antioxidant properties, only papaya demonstrated anti-cancer activity in breast cancer cells.
In a small study of older people with inflammation and precancerous changes of the stomach, a fermented papaya preparation reduced oxidative damage.
However, a lot more research is needed before any recommendations can be made.

    7. The Antioxidants in Papaya May Improve Heart Health

Adding more papaya to your diet may be beneficial for your heart.
Studies show that lycopene- and vitamin C-rich fruits may help prevent heart disease.
The antioxidants in papaya may protect your heart and enhance the protective effects of HDL, the “good” cholesterol.
In one study, people who took a fermented papaya supplement for 14 weeks had less inflammation and a better LDL:HDL ratio than people who were given a placebo. An improved ratio is linked to a reduced risk of heart disease.

    8. It Has Powerful Antioxidant Effects

Free radicals are reactive molecules created during your body’s metabolism.
They do perform certain important functions, including helping to destroy harmful bacteria.
However, when you have too many of them, your body is said to be in a state of oxidative stress, which can lead to disease.
Antioxidants, including the carotenoids found in papayas, can neutralize free radicals so that they are no longer able to cause harm.
Studies have found that fermented papaya can reduce oxidative stress in the elderly and people with prediabetes, mild hypothyroidism and liver disease.
Also, many researchers believe that excessive free radicals in the brain are an important factor in Alzheimer’s disease.
In one study, Alzheimer’s patients given a fermented papaya extract for 6 months experienced a 40% drop in a biomarker known as 8–OHdG. This marker, which measures oxidative damage to DNA, is also linked to aging and cancer.
The reduction in oxidative stress has been attributed to papaya’s lycopene content and ability to remove excess iron, which is known to produce free radicals.
